The University of Nottingham was today confirmed as the venue to host the inaugural British University Baseball Association Autumn Cup. The decision was made after taking into account Nottingham's geographical location, the facilities available and the university's pedigree at hosting baseball events.
Holding the tournament in Nottingham will mean that no team will have to travel an outrageous distance to be there. With teams coming from as far south as Southampton, and as north a Durham the central location of the East Midlands city will hopefully prove ideal.
This will be the first event to take place under the new BUBA schedule, expected to dominate the 2008/09 university baseball season. There will also be a new team on the block as the University of Lincoln look to make there debut appearance on the national scene. In all six teams will compete for the prize of being British University Cup Champions: the Southampton Mustangs, the UEA Blue Sox, the Durham Bishops, the Oxford Kings, Lincoln University and of course hosts, the Nottingham Thieves.
Teams will be seeded and placed into two groups of three. Groups will play in a round robin format with the top two in each progressing through to the semi final bracket. Day two of the tournament will see the finals being played and the champions crowned.
The tournament will take place over the weekend of the 18-19th October at Nottingham's Grove Farm field.
