Winter training is in full swing at Thieves winter training camp, and any prospective players yet to attend are urged to hurry as the final spring roster is in the process of being set. Following on from their success in the BUBA Fall Cup, the Thieves have begun a rigorous training regime, with back-to-back two hour sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at their traditional winter training home, the University of Nottingham sports centre. Head Coach Tatsuya Yogo has been ably assisted by a flock of skilled assistant coaches, including President Aaron Crute, Thieves founder Adam Brown, veteran Philip Longdin, and the ever talented Shannon Henry. They have been impressed by some of the skill already on show amongst their keen new recruits, and are optimistic about their chances in the inaugural BUBA league season: "We are optimistic about our chances in the BUBA league", they were heard to comment. Up until this point, the training program has mainly focused on instilling the prospects with an excellent understanding of the fundamental skills of baseball, but as the nights draw in, the coaching staff have deemed it time to progress to more advanced skills. Positions have been assigned to the fast-tracked students, and the intricacies of infield play, pitching and catching are being studied. The 20 man roster is beginning to round into shape, and the only new additions at this point will most likely come via trade with an American institution before the deadline closes in early January. Any American students interested in signing a short-term deal with the Thieves for the spring semester would do well to contact them now. As with all student contacts, they would be eligible to be paid the BUBA league minimum salary (£0.00PA)Â
